A simple gesture

Today while going down the staircase of an apartment and reaching the ground floor, a stranger sitting on a bench smile at me and I smile back.I notice that he has a wound on his leg and a pair of clutches beside him.
So I just asked what happen to his leg. He answered that his leg was run over by a bus in Trengganu many years ago causing his leg to fracture. The doctor operate on the leg and put in metal stut and skin grafting on the injured leg. This wound still give him problem after all these years. The sad news is that after 5 years of court case, he was not awarded any compensation by the court. Why am I writing all these? It amazes me that just a simple gesture of asking "what happen to your leg" and he pour out his story. There are other family stuff which I will not mention here. But suffice to know that a simple gesture, a pair of listening ears and you will hear from the horses mouth.

Spiritual growth progress survey

Today I took the Spiritual growth progress survey conducted by my church. The purpose is to gauge the members spiritual growth or condition of individual and from there they will compile the overall church members spiritual condition.
There are 4 sections in the survey forms, 1) knowing and understanding your salvation experience
2) having core beliefs based on the truth 3) learning how to live a virtuous life 4) knowing how to act upon the three items mentioned above.
After doing the survey, I would said that I there are still a lot to learn especially in item 4. I guess it's a life long process to be like Jesus Christ.

Forward Bible verses

Ever since I installed 'Whatapps' and 'You Bible version' apps in my handphone a few week ago, I discovered that I can sent the Bible verse of the day through Whatapps. So I started to send out to two close friends, there were no acknowledgement from them for about one week as if they did not receive. Then I receive a thank you note from one of them telling me that these verses has encouraged him. Till now I don't know which verses had encouraged him. The other friend in turn began to send me link to the latest internet news that has gone viral.
I find that through just a simple effort of forwarding Bible verses I am providing just a little tidbit for our souls. These short Bible verses is like getting a quick bite that give our souls some "nourishment".
Our personal quiet time with the Lord is important if we want a "healthy  meal" for our souls.
I have also added my daughter in Singapore in the forward list and hope that she will be encouraged too with this Bible verses for the day.

Things I learnt today..

So sad to know that my colleague nephew, a  Malaysian Punjabi Singh, a young boy of about 16 yrs passed away due to complication after a brain surgery that was done more than a year ago.  According to my colleague it is their custom to cremate the body and throw the ashes into the river.
In a multi cultural country like Malaysia, there are a lot of cultural customs that we are ignorance or unaware of.and I am just doing a small part in sharing this custom.
Today  I heard the inauguration speech of Barrack Obama over the radio, so motivational. He mentioned that God created us equal. Go and listen to his full speech and be inspired.
Just a few minutes (now is 10.45 pm), I went outside to dispose off my garbage and I look up the sky, I saw a beautiful ring around the moon ( not a full moon though) and a star. After starring this ring for a few minutes, I realise it is actually a circular rainbow with very faint rainbow color. It also look like an "open heaven" to me.
Something to ponder about....such  amazing sight!

Meeting with ex-colleagues

Today I went back to my ex-company to meet up with some of my ex-colleagues. The last time I meet up with them was a few month ago. During lunch  Ahmad (a Muslim) share that he knew of a Chinese man who was suffering from cancer but have accepted Jesus and become a Christian. He ask this man why he want to be Christian and not a Muslim? This man asnwer him, " I become a Christian because I can go to heaven without doing anything. If I become Muslim I have to pray 5 times everyday and so many things I cannot eat."
People made their choices and they choose what suit them especially in deciding their fate or faith.

Sunday 20 January 2013

This afternoon I attended a function where the leader of my church chief usher Bro. Dr. Wong hand over the leadership to Bro. Allen. The prayer for Dr. Wong is "He is not stepping down but God has a plan for him, he is stepping up!"
In church setting there is a saying, you do not retire from your service but you re-fire and re-focus on your next course as God shows and lead you on. Another saying is , "There is no retirement in God service, you serve till you expire".
Bro. Dr. Wong is a very humble man, at 68 yrs and serving for 22 years in the ursher dept is indeed a very long time. It indeed my pleasure to have serve together with this brother. Step up brother! God bless you and your family.
